Welcome to A+1 Transmission Specialists
After working in the automotive repair industry for 13 years, Ed Doyle realized the importance of finding a well-trained and qualified automotive transmission technician in the Kerrville area. Ed was trained by Chrysler, General Motors and the aftermarket and on August 8, 1978 his dream came true as he opened the doors to A+1 Transmission Specialists. The facility is the largest transmission repair shop in the Kerr County area. A+1 Transmission Specialists is a Rebuilder Member of the Automatic Transmission Rebuilders Association (ATRA) and an ASE Blue Seal Certified Facility. As technology has changed in the automotive industry, Ed determined that the proper operation of the engine and other portions of the vehicle were paramount to the operation of the transmission. Therefore, he decided to expand his company’s expertise to a full-service automotive repair facility. All of the A+1 Transmission Specialists team members are ASE Certified. Each team member is required to participate in continuing education programs provided by Automatic Transmission Rebuilders Association (ATRA), ASE and other Aftermarket Training programs so as to bring expert repair to all of our customers’ vehicles.

What a fortunate discovery! Thank goodness I sought out a second opinion after being told at a dealership that my car needed a new transmission ($9200!). The team at A-1 (Ed, John, and Lonnie) found no problem with the transmission but rather the need for a tune up, new spark plugs, replace boots and one coil, plus new air and fuel filter. The car now runs GREAT! Needless to say, I'm oh so grateful and relieved.

We brought our vehicle in due to the transmission going out and were greeted with John and Lonnie both very knowledgeable and patient with all the questions we had. They also worked very fast knowing we had a large family and this being the primary mode of transportation. John even took it for a drive with me and explained the inner working of the issues we were having so we can recognize certain things if they occur in the future. I am very grateful for the A1 and the team for getting our family back on the road.

We had our stater go bad on 10w at a rest stop about an hour west of Kerrville. We are on our retirement trip across our country. Having broke down and not knowing what to do A1 was a pleasure to do business with. Sincere Thanks A1. I HIGHLY recommend A1. They had us back on the road before lunch. Excellent service, and at a reasonable cost.

Called Lonnie to see if they could get me in to resolve a leak. Lonnie got me in, diagnosed and resolved the problem in the same day.
Additionally, when I needed my vehicles inspected, Lonnie and the crew took very good care of me and got me in and out, superb service. I will use them in the future for all of my auto needs.

I took my 2016 Tahoe to Ed and the boys for a failed transmission. Not only did I get really good service. They educated me on transmissions and what to look for in a bad one. I would give them 10 stars but google only allows 5. I would recommend A+1 Transmission to everyone. Thanks yall.

I recently was traveling west when my lug nuts and bolts all sheared off my front wheel. AAA recommended A+1, the tow truck driver and I arrived right as they opened, the guys jumped right on it ,found the parts needed locally and replaced the brake rotor,hub and nuts.i was on my way again in under 3 hours( I expected to be all day) I can't thank them enough. I owe them lunch next time I come through town.

It has been may years since I was blessed by this man. I have yet to thank him by giving a review. I'm not sure how to even write this at this time because this man blessed me so immensely that he changed my entire perspective of life and people. This man is an Angel on earth!
Here's my story!
I broke down just off the freeway headed home to Utah from my oilfield job that I just barely landed. 2 weeks prior my engine blew up and I was forced to dump 2.5k into fixing it. I thought I was good and as luck would have it on my way home to Utah my transmission (thankfully) blew up right outside of Kerrville town. I called a tow truck at roughly 10pm that night to tow me to the nearest transmission shop not knowing how I was gonna afford this bill. As fate would have it I was towed to this particular shop with roughly 400 dollars to my name. I slept in my car that night and woke to the shop opening up for business.
I spoke with the owner about my situation. He then informed me that he is unsure if he has the means or the right transmission to fix my car. We were looking at possibly several weeks before a deliver could take place. He kindly told me to sit tight as he proceeded to search for other options even after knowing my financial situation.
Shortly after he came back with some bad news informing me that he had no way to fix my car. Again, as fate would have it, one of his employees came in and said "remember that transmission you gifted me for my truck? Well, we can make that fit with the right driveline"... His employee literally gifted me a 2k transmission for free! I was floored!
The two Saints then fixed my car, took 300 of my 400 and told me to meet up with their local church as they would help fund me to get home. I did just that! The entire time I couldn't help but think, "This must be God..." At the very least GREAT men...
Anyway, this story, though about 7 years old now, has always played in my mind. This man is an absolute gift to the world, and it shows through the people he associates with as well. Even his employees shine a bright light in dark times. I am so grateful for this man's sacrifice and even today I tell my children of the things I learned in Kerrville Texas and the wonderful people that reside there. It is truly a heavenly place and this man is truly a Saint amongst men.

A1 came to our rescue on the day beforeThanksgiving. We were traveling with our travel trailer and arrived in Kerrville with no turn signals, brake lights and a locked trailer brake due to a tire blow out. We were trying to get our family for Thanksgiving. Not only did they take the time to help us, but they enabled us to get to our destination. I highly recommend A1 services and say thank you!

Ed rebuilt my Ram 1500 transmission about 8 years and 100,000 miles ago. No issues and it shifted better than new after he was done with it. I now live states away, but would recommend this place to any of my local friends. Thanks for the great work so long ago.

We were traveling by motor home across Texas. In the hill country. I did not like the way the transmission shifted with cruise control on. We went to Napa Auto parts and checked the fluid level. The auto parts people recommended A+1 Transmission Specialists. I have always had stick shift cars so I needed a class in automatic transmissions. They took us for a ride and all the gears shifted properly. The fluid had a lot of residue from the bands so we had the fluid replaced. The bands will wear out someday but not yet.

I want to say that the Employees at A-1 are so friendly and extremely experienced in vehicle repairs! They make you feel like they are your family and want to make sure you are driving in a safe vehicle. They explain all the repairs needed in a way that even I can understand and then give you a great cost for the repairs. I can recommend them to anyone who wants a friendly, honest, and cost effective repair group. I will be seeing them again and again as my vehicle ages-

This is such a nice and clean shop. The people there are very helpful and nice. I had to get a lug nut replaced for my Prius. They were busy, but made time for me. If I ever have car problems , I would definitely use them again
